CARMEL, Ind. — The Midcontinent Independent System Operator today launched registration for its second Market Symposium – an intensive, two-day industry discussion planned Aug. 15-16 in downtown Indianapolis. The event, Markets in 3D: Preparing for Digitalization, De-marginalization and Decentralization, will engage industry thought leaders on what these trends signal for wholesale market design criteria and technology.

“The MISO team is working to create a forum for industry leaders at the forefront of future market design to explore longer-term challenges and opportunities,” MISO Chief Executive Officer John Bear said. “The symposium will provide a venue to interact with thought-leaders, explore emerging technologies and build relations with decision-makers and innovators who are at the helm of a changing industry.”

Commissioner Richard Glick of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will be a special guest and speaker, along with other industry leaders.

“We are fortunate to have Commissioner Glick joining our 2018 symposium,” said Richard Doying, MISO executive vice president in charge of market design. “We are looking forward to hearing his perspectives and insights on where the industry is heading and how markets can adapt.”

MISO will host its 2018 Market Symposium at the JW Marriott Indianapolis, situated in the heart of Indiana’s vibrant state capital.

The symposium will also include an expanded showcase dedicated to highlighting select market solution options and emerging technologies. MISO will accept applications for showcase booth exhibits and Innovation Shorts presentations, in which presenters will be invited to share a five-minute “short” on the main stage.

“We know our industry is transforming,” noted Jessica Harrison, MISO director of Research and Development. “We want to foster thought-provoking discussions so that the industry can meet future challenges with innovative solutions that ultimately improve service and value for consumers.”

The complete agenda, including speaker and panelist information and the showcase application, is available on the Market Symposium registration site.
