The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) Order 1000 ruling calls for improvements in the coordination between neighboring transmission planning regions for interregional transmission facilities.
MISO works with PJM, SERTP and SPP, its neighboring transmission planning regions, to develop a mutually agreeable method for allocating the costs of transmission facilities that benefit more than one region.
PJM neighbors MISO to the northeast and is the regional transmission organization and independent system operator for members in Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Southwest Power Pool neighbors MISO to the southwest. SPP is the regional transmission operator and independent system operator for members in Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

The Southeastern Regional Transmission Planning organization neighbors MISO to both the southeast and west. SERTP has members who operate in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Tennessee.
