MISO Region Engagement

MISO is committed to providing value and reliability for our stakeholders and our region, which spans parts of 15 states and the Canadian province of Manitoba. Our primary mission is ensuring the reliable and cost-effective operation of the electric grid. We also conduct regional transmission planning and administer one of the largest wholesale electric markets in the world.  Executing those functions on a regional basis allows for the creation of an estimated $3.5 billion in annual benefits.

The energy industry has become very dynamic due to a number of factors, including energy policy, regulation, fuel economics and customer preferences.  The changing landscape requires that the region must evolve to ensure continued reliability and value creation going forward.  A diversity of voices is critical to identify and develop the needed changes and enhancements for the continued success of the region.  The MISO community enjoys such a diversity of viewpoints and we always welcome additional voices.

Engaging or becoming involved in the MISO Region

There are a number of ways to become involved in the MISO Region, from becoming a MISO Member (for eligible entities) to simply attending and participating in public meetings where much of the work occurs to continually evolve rules, tools, processes, etc., to ensure preparedness for the future. Public meetings are organized around certain functions or aspects of MISO, through a structure of subcommittees, or entities that make up our stakeholder process. In certain entities input and voting takes place by Stakeholder Sectors, which are related to different segments of the industry. There are currently 11 Sectors in the MISO stakeholder process to allow similarly focused companies to align their participation.

The Guide to MISO Region Engagement Pathways outlines the different opportunities for engagement in the MISO region to help you determine your eligibility and interests.  If after reviewing the information you are not sure of the appropriate path, please complete the Interest Form and MISO will review the provided information and contact you to help you become involved and contribute to the reliable delivery of least-cost electricity to millions of customers in the region.
