The MISO Communication System (MCS) is moving to a new application called Operator Interface. This application is designed with the latest technology to assist both our Operators and Stakeholders with communications and reliability. This new technology is just one piece of MISO’s plan in building the Grid of the future.
The Operator Interface will be a new application that will support declarations and improve situational awareness between MISO and its Members. The Operator Interface will provide visual enhancements within the instructional aspects of the declaration and navigation to complete required tasks within the application.
Phase 2 of the MCS Rewrite is focused primarily on the creation and ability to deliver a new and improved MISO System Declarations and also provide the MISO Shift Manager the ability to deliver informational messages that directly impact real time operations.
A previous phase, Phase 1, was completed on July 1, 2021 when the Demand Side Resource Interface (DSRI) was launched. Project information regarding the DSRI.
The new Operator Interface will provide flexibility in receiving declarations and message notifications by different modalities.
If Members use the Generator Start/Stop Tool in the MCS, the backup means of resource start/stop notifications, the screen will continue to available in the MCS. The primary means of resource start/stop notifications continue to be via the MUI 2.0.
MISO Control Room Operators and the IMM will continue to use the MCS for Operator Logging. The actions necessary for LBA MCS Users will continue to occur in the MCS for Firm Load Shed and Load Management Measures. Transition of these tools into the Operator Interface will be conducted at a later phase.
The change, the completion of Phase 2, is expected to take place in the 4th quarter of 2023. More Stakeholder Engagement Opportunities
