Operator Training Courses

We work with system operator trainers from across the footprint to design a training curriculum that meets the  requirements put into place by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation. We deliver these courses in-person in different locations throughout the region and via web conference to ensure accessibility to all of the operators responsible for grid reliability.

Operators may register to attend one or many courses throughout the year to ensure their knowledge and skill sets meet the growing demands of the transmission grid. Classes are taught by leading industry professionals and most meet the criteria for continuing education hours.

This Instructor led class will describe, review, and demonstrate two of the main concepts of Grid Operations: Generation and Transmission Operations. The Generator Operations section describes the theory of frequency control, applicable NERC BAL Standards, and concludes with an interactive discussion and demonstration on how the Balancing Authority (BA) performs these tasks from the MISO BA Operator perspective. The Transmission Operations section covers basic transmission operations including managing switching, the fundamentals of voltage control, Sol & IROL concepts, power flow, and management congestion. This section also describes and illustrates the concepts of voltage control, angle, & voltage stability, and a review of the applicable NERC standards for Transmission Operations. The conclusion of the section will provide an interactive discussion and demonstration of how the Reliability Coordinator (RC) performs these tasks from the MISO RC perspective. Registration is through the MISO LMS.

This class is targeting the LBAs and TOPs and GOPs within the MISO reliability footprint.
