The Midcontinent Independent System Operator, Inc. (MISO) ensures the reliable delivery of electricity, at the lowest cost, across high-voltage power lines in 15 U.S. States and the Canadian province of Manitoba. 42 million Americans depend on us to keep the power flowing. MISO also conducts transmission planning and manages the buying and selling of wholesale electricity in one of the world’s largest energy markets.
MISO is a not-for-profit, member based organization. We do not own any generation or transmission facilities. We strictly manage the generation and flow of electricity across the high-voltage lines within the MISO territory.

Guide to Referencing MISO
Effective April 26, 2013, MISO amended its Certificate of Incorporation on file with the State of Delaware to reflect a change in its legal name to “Midcontinent Independent System Operator, Inc.” No other changes to the MISO business resulted from this change.
Because of the recent growth of MISO operations, “Midcontinent” better represents our expanding footprint.
